European gallery-crawl

Venice biennale

In June-July 2013 I was lucky enough to have a holiday in Europe – Germany, Scotland and (briefly) Istanbul. Some holiday makers go on pub-crawls but I like to head for scenery or cultural experiences I can’t get anywhere else. This page is the hub for small collections of art/history photos I took during the trip: galleries, museums, historic buildings and some outdoor public art. They don’t pretend to be comprehensive or authoritative but merely reflect what I noticed, liked and could photograph in the time available.

The individual pages are still (May 2019) hosted on Green Path, my wildlife and environment blog. They will be transferred to this (newer) site eventually.

Frankfurt – Museum of Modern Art – Bad Homburg and Blickachsen 9

Glasgow – especially sculptures by Niki de Saint Phalle at GOMA

Istanbul – Topkapi Palace – Blue MosqueHagia Sophia – Basilica Cistern – Mosaic Museum

A couple of environmental posts on Green Path also came out of my 2013 European holiday; you may enjoy Renewable Energy in Europe and Food from the New World. And there is a collection of Scottish insects here, on my Flickr photostream.

In 2015 I spent a few weeks in Greece and Italy on a similar holiday and went through the same process of posting about it here and on the blog, and posting insect photos to flickr.

Venice – the Biennale

Athens – the Acropolis
