Margaret Caley

Margaret Caley studied violin performance at the Universities of Southern Queensland, Queensland, and Tasmania before specialising in early music. From 1988-91 she studied baroque violin with Lucy van Dael at the Royal Conservatory, the Hague, the Netherlands, and performed professionally in several European baroque orchestras.

Since returning to Australia in 1992, she has performed in most major cities in solo and chamber music recitals, as well as with orchestras such as the Brandenburg Orchestra, the Sydney Chamber Orchestra and the Brisbane Early Music Festival Orchestra (leader 1998). Based in Townsville since 1998, Margaret taught strings at Townsville Grammar School for several years before taking up a position as general manager of Music Centre North Queensland. She now lives in Brisbane.

Malcolm Tattersall

Malcolm Tattersall was one of the foundation recorder students at Melbourne University, and taught in Melbourne schools before moving to Townsville in 1990.

He now teaches woodwinds in schools and privately; performs occasionally in groups such as Calliope; composes and arranges for woodwinds; and reviews books and CDs for the Townsville Bulletin, Music Forum and other publications. In 2002, Malcolm released his first CD, Music for Reflection, which features his own compositions amongst other contemporary Australian music. Visit his personal home page for more about his work.

Daniel Cocks

Daniel Cocks began learning recorder in 1990 and on that instrument was a foundation member of Blue Moon in 1995 and Calliope a few years later. He took up the oboe while in secondary school, studying with Professor Gerrit Bon and performing with Pimlico SHS Symphony Orchestra and later the Barrier Reef Orchestra. He is the Telemann Ensemble’s most recent addition, having joined in 2002.

Having completed a Ph. D. in Physics at James Cook University, he is now working in that field in Frankfurt.

Wade Tattersall

Wade Tattersall has been studying cello since 1995 and recorder a little longer. He has performed as a cellist with school ensembles (including Pimlico Chamber Strings, regional winners of the 2002 ‘Fanfare’ competition) and with Blue Moon, pit orchestras for musicals, and the Barrier Reef Orchestra. He is primarily a cellist with the Telemann Ensemble but also plays recorder for us at times, as he did in Blue Moon.

He is currently a post-graduate student in Physics at the Australian National University, splitting his time between Canberra and Townsville.

Kaye Gersch

Kaye Gersch originally learnt piano, studying at the Adelaide Conservatorium under Clemens Leske. Ever since first hearing the sound of Bach played on a harpsichord she has been enthralled by this instrument, and since 1987 she has been the proud owner of a Flemish Single harpsichord made by Carey Beebe in Sydney.

Kaye played with ensembles in Perth before moving to North Queensland and joining the Telemann Ensemble. She is (also) an analytic psychotherapist and lives in Cairns.
