The man behind our name:
Georg Philip Telemann

Georg Philip Telemann was as highly esteemed in his own time as his great contemporaries Bach, Handel and Vivaldi. His effortless melodic invention equals that of Vivaldi, but his music tends to be more approachable to today’s audiences because it is lighter and more graceful, perhaps more forward-looking, than that of Bach or Handel.

One of the most prolific composers of all time, and a recorder player himself in a time when the recorder was at the height of its popularity, he probably wrote more chamber music specifically for the recorder than any other composer before or since. He used it in an endless variety of instrumental combinations, and always with consideration for its limitations and respect for its special qualities.
