Education Kit for 2006 Elizabethan Fair and Shakespeare Festival

The Elizabethan Fair and the associated Shakespeare Festival are a joint venture of Townsville City Council and TropicSun Theatre with support from Education Queensland.

TropicSun performed Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet in Queens Gardens, North Ward, Townsville from May 6th to 20th before taking their production to Cairns.

The Fair, in Queens Gardens from 1.00 to 4.00 pm on Sunday May 7th 2006, included activities, workshops, stalls, food, displays, and street performers in costume, all free to the public and presented by the Townsville City Council as part of the Shakespeare Festival.

The Shakespeare Festival comprises a related series of schools' workshops, also in Queens Gardens. This year they ran from Monday May 8 to Thursday May 11. Hands-on workshops in Music, Theatre, Dance and Visual Arts were presented by local and visiting experts, with historical re-enactments, period games and matinee performances of Romeo and Juliet.

The Telemann Ensemble performed alone and with the Early Dance Consort at the Fair, and presented the music workshops during the Shakespeare Festival, in both 2005 and 2006.

For more information on both the Fair and the Festival, phone the Council on 4727 9649.
